Four Chicago techno legends (Gant-Man, DJ Deeon, Kareem Smith, Lester Fitzpatrick) come together on Urban Kickz Recordings for a melee of energized, no-nonsense dancefloor destroyers.
All tracks on the EP ooze Chicago dancefloor flavor and late-night jacking etiquette, which is very apparent on the opener “Game Over” by Gant-Man. Immaculate production paired with a plethora of switch-ups and surprises make it an instant anthem ready for any high-energy set. Similar to the rest of the release, the track is mostly 909 drum driven, with an almost 8-bit sounding, playful analog lead synth that seems to be a recurring theme throughout the EP. It does a good job of ‘glueing’ the sounds together of four extraordinary producers.
Lester Fitzpatricks “Video Jacked (Part 1)” also stands out in the release clocking in at almost 140bpm. Swirling effects and intense percussion transports you to dark after-hours mania, keeping you entranced while the massive kick pounds your body into movement. Providing over 7 minutes of frenzied fervor, one must question when and what is to come with a part 2? UKR is on fire in 2021 and once again puts out a must-hear ace techno release, appropriately assembling the right characters and mixes to represent the jacked-out sound of Chicago techno.
