The Manchester-based rising talent Yant is back on the SK_X series with a four-track EP, “Contravention,” that delivers an alluring groove by combining hypnosis-inducing sounds with rich and powerful beats.
Yant is one of the rising talents of the techno scene, who has made a name for himself with his exciting productions and remarkable DJ sets in some of the most revered clubs in the world. His techno is carefully calibrated and incredibly effective at generating an irresistible groove, that seems specifically designed for energetic dance floors. In 2019, Yant started off the SK_X series on the SK_eleven label run by Setaoc Mass, with an EP entitled “Night Shift.” This March, he is back on the series with “Contravention,” a masterfully produced four-track delight that sustains a riveting balance between a swift rhythm and hypnosis-inducing sounds.
The introductory track, “Contravention,” is characteristic of Yant’s signature musical aesthetic, with a particular attention to sound design and structure to generate a holistic and constantly engrossing listening experience. The kick’s heaviness is rendered sublime by its juxtaposition with intoxicatingly repetitive synths that evoke a heightened sense of sonic space. Next, “Electronic Space Storm” digs deeper into the power of pulsating sound, with its rich and tenacious beat that inexorably draws us into its high energy, proving it would certainly wreak havoc upon the world’s most dynamic dancefloors.
“Solidarity Is On The Line” is another undeniably club-ready techno hit with a kick that mesmerizes through its ability to showcase a wide range of auditory possibilities. It is just stripped down enough to tone down some of the psychedelism of Yant’s sound, thus enabling dancers to focus on the intense rhythmicality of the track. As a stylish conclusion to the EP, “Kaleidoscopic Vision” opts for a much more oppressive atmosphere with its intoxicating loops, and enables us to discover a different facet of its creator’s musical world. We cannot wait to hear these productions on a proper soundsystem, where they will reveal their full potential.
