From orchestral piano to 90’s acid, this smorgasbord of rave tunes has something for everyone and 100% of the proceeds go to Dublin charity, Inner City Helping Homeless (ICHH).
Name a release that includes hard techno, hip hop, acid, punk rock, ambient, dub, jungle and orchestral piano. I’ll wait. VSN WORLD’s 32-track compilation “VSN 4 A BETTER WORLD” delivers all of that and more. And if that wasn’t enough, 100% of the proceeds go to Dublin charity Inner City Helping Homeless (ICHH).
The range of music on this behemoth is incredibly wide, both in terms of genre and mood. On one end of the spectrum, you’re pounding along to X CLUB’s techno screamer, “FOCUS”; on the other, you’re soft smiling and imagining what the food in the afterlife will be like while Froman’s “Vinz” bathes your ears in warm, ethereal synths and crispy breaks.
But despite this diversity, there’s a certain cohesiveness to “VSN 4 A BETTER WORLD.” The tracks are arranged in a way that feels like a journey through a theatrical night out. The first track, “Ladies and Gents,” literally welcomes you with a tongue-in-cheek PA announcement flanked by Debussy-esque orchestral piano. Then, sparked by Kettama’s off-kilter banger, “Circuit Breaka,” tracks 2-13 deliver the high velocity rave energy we came for. Track 14, Cressida’s “Petrichor, Petrichor” is an introspective ambient tune that acts as a sort of intermission.
As we come back for the second act, tracks 15-32, the mood shifts from high energy to vibe and flow. DJ Haus’s “Eternal Spring” is the second act star. The tune is dripping in dynamic acid lines and cowbell – a reverent ode to 90’s acid. Prozak’s “All night” is the other second act stand out. The tune’s UK garage breaks and soulful vocal samples create a nostalgic feeling, which is propped up by a surging dub bass. This one a kind release is only the first from VSN WORLD. Here’s to the future.
