Russian DJ/Producer Inox Traxx makes her debut on Ben Sims’ Symbolism label with five expertly crafted techno tracks. Ruthless 909 grooves and precise mixing prevail in each track of this EP catered to slam the warehouse dance floors.
“Chapter Two” starts off the record with a haunting roller, setting the tone with hard hitting minimal beats at 140bpm soaked with warmth and character. Modular bleeps and synth stabs filter in and out with a muffled vocal phrase while she goes wild on the 909 changeups, creating a fast-paced and engaging mood.
Stripped-down 909 grooves run the show throughout the EP and the title track really demonstrates how bright the classic techno drum machine can shine. “House Of Wax” meticulously allocates and processes each drum sound into its own pocket across the audible frequency spectrum, giving a full and mighty dance track mixdown on its own, only adding the occasional fade in of the vocal sample and reverb build up to formulate a dance floor behemoth.
While the B sides successfully match the precision and energy of the first two tracks, the fifth track “Rollin” stands out with a different flavor. As an upbeat and buoyant acid track, it finishes off the masterful EP of dance floor slayers with even more energy and swing than its predecessors, thanks to its driving sub bass line, bouncy acid sequence and the first snare on the 2/4 beats of the record, effectively jacking the energy levels all the way to the top before winding down and leaving you craving more.
