French techno label Fever Recordings’ 25th release, titled ‘Road To Nowhere’ by Ket Robinson, might just be their be the best release yet.
Ket Robinson has consistently been developing his sound over the last seven years, and his latest ‘Road To Nowhere’ EP is a true testament to his dedication and work ethic. Bordering on album length, this 6-track release is truly an exciting listen. Well-polished and hyper-detailed, each composition demonstrates a true sense of savvy and expertise. Dynamic, yet unrelenting, Robinson’s sound is quintessentially ‘techno’, and the perfect new addition for France’s own Fever Recordings.
The title track ‘Road To Nowhere’ is adventurous and powerful. Sounds of sizzling electronics and echoing stabs, rise and fall, weaving their way around a massive, booming kick. Is the warehouse crumbling all around me, or is that just Robinson’s incredible sound design? This track, especially, demands an epic lightshow to help convey its full potential.
Each track, including the two remixes by artists ‘dotwav’ and ‘Electric Rescue’, have a unique flavor, making each moment of this release highly versatile for all of your techno DJ set needs. Take the wet and squishy lead percussive loop of ‘Clara’ and compare it to the sharp and dainty beep sound effect sprinkled throughout ‘Le Chant Du Loup (Version 1)’ and you will hear and feel a clear distinction between the various moods that this EP can induce. Another definite highlight of this EP is when the haunting, yet pretty melody of Electric Rescue’s remix of ‘Le Chant Du Loup’ creeps its way into the forefront of the mix at about a minute into the song. Moments like these are certainly welcome at the rave; especially after hours of pounding kick drums have left you in a trance-like stupor. None of these tracks are too repetitive and each of them will keep listeners and dancers alike engaged and hungry for more.
It’s no surprise that Ket Robinson hails from Paris, France, as Paris’ techno scene has proven over recent years to be heading toward, arguably, a much faster and more intense sound than its European counterparts. For a relatively young label, Fever Recordings must be feeling quite hot about scoring such a quality release. One can’t help but be excited to hear more from this talented producer/dj, and to see where their musical journey will take us next.
