Various Artists – “Akerbeltz – NGM005” (Inguma Records) [April 23rd 2021]

Inguma Records’ latest V.A. EP, Akerbeltz – NGM005, features four high-impact techno cuts from Setaoc Mass, Kaiser, Tuber and Kessell.

The enigmatic Spanish label Inguma Records, born during the early months of quarantine, has already proven itself to be vision-driven thanks to its cohesive aesthetic. After four exciting releases in less than a year, the label is back with an ambitious new EP that brings together some of the biggest names in contemporary techno: Setaoc Mass, Kaiser, Tuber and Kessell.

This fifth installation of the Inguma project pays homage to Basque mythology and folklore by summoning a mysterious subterranean creature: the Akerbeltz. Taking the form of a goat, this deity has the ability to generate storms and is generally associated with maleficent forces and dark magic, making it the perfect emblem for the subversive and galvanizing power of techno. True to the tempestuous spirit of the Akerbeltz, this EP is ridden with tracks ready to blow the hats off the dancefloor with their rumbling kicks and martial precision.

Setoac Mass opens the festivities with “Ask The Dust,” an immersive techno hit marked with the signature style of its producer, followed by Kaiser’s unstoppable “Practical Application,” which sustains the heavy atmosphere we love to hear on blaring speakers. Tuber’s “Red Lipstick,” on the other hand, embraces a slower rhythmicality to revel in the depths of hypnotic sound. Kessell is on closing duties with “Critical Mass,” a psychedelic and groovy take on kick-oriented bangers. Infused with the turbulent spirit of the Akerbeltz, these tracks make the prospect of post-pandemic clubbing all the more thrilling.
