DJ Physical gets down and dirty with a powerful, raw slough of bass heavy heaters sure to shake systems.
Grimy hip-hop vocal samples combined with deep low patterns invite heads to nod as soon as the beats commence. French born and raised Loyce Demellier, aka DJ Physical, turned his love of collecting records into production and immediately cemented a foundation of visceral, in your face tunes. His latest release, Dirty Bastard embodies beautiful melodies encompassed with attitude.
Compiling deep house groove, break beat rhythms, and ethereal overtones allows for the artist to express a signature style. Throughout the EP DJ Physical enables a plethora of emotions and patterns to shine while the always constant beat keeps everything in order. Ranging from club-oriented to hypnotic study music keeping an entertaining flow and a seductive darkness. Utilizing tried and true drum loops efficiently brings familiarity and a vibe easily related to. Minor keys allocate the direction of the tracks with sophistication and keep the listener on the edge of what’s next. A set of droning synth compositions are active in “Physical Attraction” and the title track “Dirty Bastard”. Multi-faceted and progressive keys help with the complexity of the overall picture, maintaining an interesting sonic journey.
The structural design can be understood as algorithmic where each track has purpose and momentum, yet is the sum of equal parts. A balance is struck naturally between all four tunes which produces an unbreakable bond designed to be consumed as a package. The percussion in “Laser Game” stands out in solidarity as strong claps merge with their cymbal counterparts seamlessly. It’s logically possible that any pattern could be switched or replaced with another’s without any issue. From start to finish there is no filler, only meat and potatoes. Surely optimized for transitioning amongst each other with little to no breakdown to be found. While not necessarily pushing boundaries, DJ Physical has discovered a sure-fire formula by sticking to what he knows best.
