The highly anticipated debut album by London based Sync 24 “Inside the Microbeat” displays a plethora of experimental beats alongside ripping electro. Releasing on his top shelf label “Cultivated Electronics” Sync 24 proves yet again why he is one of the driving forces in true electro production.
Taking his time to make sure the album delivers immaculate creations and pure expression, Sync 24 is not for the faint-hearted. It’s a wild ride from start to finish. “Inside the Microbeat” cements Sync’s status and reminds us that underground electronica is alive and well.
The eleven-track album consists of cutting edge electro that comes in a sharp and elegant package. An extremely diverse bag of hard and software create a seemingly endless variety of tones and rhythms that just jump out from the speakers. Every track is calculated to a neurotic level, begging to be analyzed many times over. Mixing old school breaks with evolved basslines in tracks “Inspired Law” and “Drunk on Delays”, while transferring left-field grooves on “Sluper smashed” and “Avoid the Ploid”. Sci-fi energy and vibe are presented from the first track onwards. Picture an alien bumping this on their spacecraft as they kick it into hyperdrive.
The tracks themselves stand alone, but flow smoothly in progression with natural breakdowns and dynamic shifts. Utilizing clever percussion patterns in nearly every tune, Sync 24 serves up a masterclass of intuitive and deep composition. An incredibly wide array of emotions are displayed within the matrix of sonic waves conjured by “Inside the Microbeat”. One minute you are freely thinking in deep introspection, the next you are bobbing side to side from the sheer drive of hard-hitting electro mania.
While there are surely dance floor weapons on the album, “Inside the Microbeat” shines best during its beautiful ambient moments, taking away worry and transporting you to a different dimension. Eerie chorus and delayed echoes are sharp as blades and meld organically into the tracks. The way Sync 24 combines techniques and patterns puts him, and the album, in a league of their own.
“Inside the Microbeat” is a triumph of electronica that should be projected to the masses. The enjoyability is off the charts and will need many rinses to process the intelligent structure found within its depths. Hats off to Sync 24 for composing a wild and whimsical journey, worthy of the finest hi-fi systems.
