suki & SNIPER1 – “Rhythm Export EP” (Holding Hands) [December 10, 2021]

Piping hot techno and electro come courtesy of suki & Sniper1 on his latest release, “Rhythm Export.” Warped, dance floor ready acid cuts, oozing with energy and flare, there isn’t a single miss on this release. Expect quintessential warehouse rave tunes destined to make bodies move from the first seconds of the proverbial (or literal!) needle drop.

Rhythm Export EP released on London’s Holding Hands Records emits the same polish the label is known for upholding with artists like Desert Sound Colony and Adam Pits on their roster.

The title track begins with tambourine shuffles coupled together with chopped vocal cuts and a catchy break beat. Acid bubbling and gurgling joins the fray soon after kicking the vibe into overdrive. Percussion elements of stagnating kick drums and groovy hi hat clashes add character into the core of the track, elevating the funk further in a progressive manner. As the breakdown commences, about two minutes in, nostalgic bleeps and chord stabs cement the old school rave style. The tracks’ ability to create groove with a simple hi-hat and acid line should be noted and praised for its efficiency.

A deeper, classy tune with notes of introspection and edginess rounds out the A side of Rhythm Export EP titled “Georges Discovery.” The track utilizes more of a swing rhythm when compared to the rest of the EP, but also keeps the rave flow rocking. The hollowed synth keys in particular really give it that 90s feel. Someone once said, “You can never have too much acid.” That mantra is present in the EP with every track incorporating at least one acid line into the mix.

Little breathing room is to be found as the record scratches briefly in preparation for the standout track, “Purple Haze.”

Rimmed snare hits pitter patter at a high velocity while choral ambience oscillate between convex and concave waves to begin the third track. The welcome acid gurgles in preparation for high pitched synth patches that follow. The bass grumble is forceful without overpowering the snare shots, and echo in the background. A brief breakdown exits with stuttered pad work, injecting more of that lovely rave swagger straight into the meat of the tune. Expect this one to move some bodies.

To end the fantastical trip, suki and Sniper1 keep things whimsical and light hearted with a side of mysticism in “Elezon.” A headier jam that channels house energy with its flute like stabs and hushed piano strikes. As the song reaches its pinnacle, a transient dial tone sound adds even more structure to the already complex tune. The track doesn’t seem to fit with the others on the release, however.
