Winston Mann, bio
Hi, I’m Winston. I am a full time party monster and insect neuroscientist based in the center of Germany. I have written for Columbia’s Current magazine and 48 Hills where I covered the underground and sometimes dystopian electronic music scene in San Francisco. I have also written extensively for myself, including macabre poetry and short stories to which magazines like the New Yorker have responded with, “Unfortunately we cannot publish this now.”
Techno is something I experience with near religious fervor, a place to find community and likemindedness where it is not otherwise available. I love the openmindedness and total freedom of the space, the way it is able to embrace every community at once. I write about any and all music I find interesting, from weird modular synthesis experiments to chill, evocative house to hardcore, borderline gabber techno.
Writing for Dirty Epic has provided, on top of a great rationale for hours of weekly crate-digging, a unique opportunity to commune deeply with the global techno community. Hearing feedback from artists, giving a platform to upcoming talent, getting the opportunity to think deeply about the most instinctual and vital (in this author’s opinion) genre of music in existence has been extremely fun and educational, bridging my two great loves of writing and music. And the other people who work here are pretty cool too.
