Lina Xing, bio
Residing in the Brooklyn borough of New York City, Lina spends her time immersed in techno dwellings that seemingly never sleep. Shortly after beginning classical piano training at age four, Lina discovered a niche for pitch matching by ear. Never truly feeling like music theory and piano matched her style, she set out to soothe her soul with a different medium. That medium turned out to be Techno.
After overcoming the stigma that electronic music was a lesser form of musicality, she dove headfirst into America’s biggest techno gathering in 2019: Detroit Movement Festival. Drawn to the festival by serendipity, she felt at home instantly. An eagerness to support women and underappreciated artists paved her path towards acts like Paula Temple and Karen Gwyer. A ticket to a rare stateside booking of Paula Temple led to a trip out to LA for the enigmatic Maya Jane Coles and acquainted her with West Coast promoters.
Already yearning to blog and express her love for techno music through writing, Lina jumped at a chance to write music reviews for Dirty Epic after scrolling over a job application on Instagram. Pouring over sets and productions for many hours a day led her to start learning how to produce. Passion stemmed from a want to grasp and learn the technical aspect of the craft. Not long after a handful of reviews, Lina was taken on by leader of Dirty Epic, Andrew Souto, as team Editor, including reviews and website. A relatability was found within the core principles and drive to showcase outstanding productions and artists. Finding and nurturing a safe environment, where there is a zero-tolerance policy against harassment and judgment of any kind, resonated with Lina.
During the pandemic, she began hosting a radio segment dubbed “Kinetic Energy” at 8 Ball Radio as well as playing records at Pioneer Works on Sundays. As her focus becomes clearer, the drive to bring people together with music stands strong. Making people dance with infinite possibilities in regard to techno and its scene, Lina is well on her way to making an impact.
