Luis Miranda & Closer Orbit – “No Games” EP (KD Raw) [February 14, 2022]

Los Angeles-based techno DJ/producers Luis Miranda and Closer Orbit team up on a three tracker for Kaiserdisco’s KD Raw. Following up from Miranda’s debut EP on the German imprint in 2021, expect more of a minimal warehouse vibe from this collaborative effort with Closer Orbit. “No Games” EP shows the blissful connection between Spanish-born Miranda’s techno influences and the rooted in Chicago house music background of Closer Orbit, aka Nicolaas Black.

“No Games” exudes high intensity off the rip, starting the track off with a pounding kick nailed to a tight, jacking percussive groove. Next, the duo brings rhythmic vocal snippets and a trippy analog synth sequence into the mix before taking off on the drum machine workout that ensues throughout. Carefully building and demolishing energy with the likes of snare and clap roll buildups and an assortment of hat patterns, the opening track stays engaging from start to finish.

“I Need Ya” comes in next, following suit with another quick, swinging groove matched with tasteful techno synthesis. This time sampling vocals from classic Salsoul tunes, the duo infuses a classic house aspect into the mix. Clocking in at 140bpm, the ravaging upbeat cadence never lets up, getting even more zealous towards the end with a pattern change-up on the synth line to provide a final boost of raw, jacking power to the dance floor.

“Hypnotized” completes the release with the Los Angeles duo’s take on spacey techno. Brutal drum beats burst with fury while the disconcerting synth sequence keeps you grounded as the number gains traction. Excellent use of reverb and vocals give the final track its uniqueness along with various percussion lines that take the track from mesmerizing to slamming.

“No Games” EP is a tight and extremely playable release from start to finish from these quickly rising Los Angelenos, keeping us on our toes for what they cook up next.

“No Games” EP is available now exclusively on beatport and on most digital platforms soon.
