London-based production group Master Your Thoughts brings lackadaisical, worldly house into modernity with their latest self released album, “Chronicles Of Lemuria”.
With over 200 releases of singles, EPs, and albums over the course of a single year, London-based production group Master Your Thoughts have certainly stayed busy and consistent. Each release, often featuring a pleasantly grainy photograph of scenic views or natural landscapes as the album art, has stayed consistent in sounding bright and uplifting, yet always explores new sonic territory. No genre, nor sub-genre, is safe from this group’s ever-expanding musical pallet, making each of their tunes feel eclectic and full of surprises. While it’s easy to get lost in the MYT’s extensive discography, their latest album makes for the perfect starting point for getting familiar with their refreshing sound.
Getting lost in their music is quite easy, which is perhaps the artists’ intention for their listeners. As stated on the group’s bandcamp, Master Your Thoughts aims to create music that is “meditative on the mind;” something that their latest album, “Chronicles Of Lemuria,” undoubtedly achieves. The lack of track titles lends itself to this philosophy, creating a listening experience that encourages you to go with the flow and enjoy the album in its entirety. With that said however, a few selections standout from the rest. The opening track, “A1,” glimmers with shimmering keys and petite percussive fills while a deep bass line locks in an irresistible groove.
One pleasant quality of this album, and the group’s music in general, is how it flows loosely like a jam session. Each track picks up from where the last left off, leading you further along the journey and never sounding overly produced or rehearsed. This pleasantly improvised sound is most apparent on cuts like “A4,” a track that toils with reggae guitar chords, synthesizers, panpipes, and other woodwind instruments. While side A conjures feelings of relaxing in nature, the B-side explores a more traditional house sound that keeps the mood light, festive, and relentlessly groovy.
If you’re a fan of house and worldly music, this album will certainly make a great addition to your collection, but why stop there? Download the eleven-track album for a mere £0.50, or go a step further in supporting the group by purchasing the entire 227 releases in their discography for the unbelievably reasonable price of £11.30 via the bandcamp page linked above.
