Swedish label PROLETARIJAT unveils “Proletarijat RMX001″—the first edition of its brand new remix series featuring four reworks of select tracks by label head, Sev Dah. Inspired by the Yugoslavic resistance movement during WWII, the core values of Sev Dah’s label, Proletarijat, feel more relevant than ever.
“The fight is never over!” declares the PROLETARIJAT / ПРОЛЕТАРИЈАТ label on the about page of their website to convey the label’s mission statement; it quickly becomes clear that there’s more at play than just cool sounds and groovy tunes.
The PROLETARIJAT label wants to remind us through the label’s music, track titles, and imagery that freedom of expression isn’t a given but rather something past generations have had to fight for, and often have even died for.
“Proletarijat RMX001” serves as a healthy reminder that those we consider heroic are, in fact, ordinary people, no different than us. So here’s to another exceptional release of, as they eloquently put it, “…working class machine music for the united world proletariat!” and may it help inspire the next generation to never give up their right to freedom of expression.
Starting off the EP is an empowering remix from Berghain regular, Nihad Tule. Layers of warm electronics coalesce into a sinister medley that’s not for the faint of heart as short and dry high hats fill in the gaps to keep the mood brisk yet simultaneously on edge. The next track to follow on “Proletarijat RMX001” is a standout contribution from Swedish house and techno superstar, Skudge. A thick and groovy bass line with a simple conga groove promises something far more house oriented, and it absolutely delivers. As the beat progresses a few carefully selected synth pads emerge to gradually lure you in. Getting lost in this tune is unbelievably easy, and Sev Dah must’ve been thrilled to receive such a tasty remix from such an exceptional producer.
On the B-side of the record are two distinct remixes of Dah’s track “Kozarchanka.” Nihad Tule’s interpretation expertly blends rolling techno grooves with bright and uplifting house-driven flare. Melodic, yet pounding, this remix nicely balances the two styles, creating a new and highly energetic concoction.
To close things out, Stanslav Tolkachev moves things into darker territory with an occasional hard techno kick drum bursting out of an otherwise purely dub-inspired techno soundscape as deep tones and long reverbs create a thick, hazy atmosphere. The final remix is perfect for a dark warehouse or club environment, and certainly helps bring the “Proletarijat RMX001” EP to a solid close.
“PROLETARIJAT RMX001” is the first of many more remix EPs to come from this label and welcomes in some truly talented producers. Support the label and artists with a digital download via the Bandcamp page linked above, and remember that the fight is never over!
