Alexander Johansson & Mattias Fridell – “Missunnad” EP (Lømsk) [April 5, 2022]

Swedish techno mainstays Alexander Johansson and Mattias Fridell premiere Lømsk, a new record label for their own underground dance music productions, with their introductory “Missunnad” EP. Featuring four raw and filthy minimal techno tracks in similar fashion to their EP on Truncate’s label earlier this year, these are sure to catch attention for their newly formed imprint.

“Greven” starts the “Missunnad” EP release off in a hypnotic daze with an unassumingly powerful kick under a mesmerizing synth sequence. As the track evolves, crunchy drums emerge dancing around the organically growing melody through its peaks and valleys to provide the record with a tastefully enjoyable first jaunt on its maiden voyage.

“Skamsen” comes on next with an anxiety-driven number thanks to an unnervingly detuned main synth melody paired with a barely audible, eerie soundscape creeping in the background. More tough as nails drums fire away with a tightly locked groove, keeping the feet moving as the Swedes trip you out before slamming it home on the b-side.

“Svett” immediately erupts with an acid beatdown on the records’ flipside, latching you to the sequence in the first two minutes before adding to its foundation with a thrashing ride cymbal. The slight addition triggers a changeup to the melody, making it even more disconcerting as the duo guides you around their acid nightmare, leading you to their final stop.

“40Watt” finishes the inaugural “Missunnad” EP release in proper fashion with one last savory, minimal thrasher. Instantly captivating and catchy, Alexander Johansson & Mattias Fridell show no remorse on pounding forth their raw and danceable warehouse sound for a six minute, intense workout of an ending. An extraordinary first outing for the Lømsk label, sure to keep you intent on staying informed for when 002 drops.
