Fresh new remixes of Planetary Assault Systems’ timeless classic “Rip The Cut” are curated by Dubfire, The Lady Machine, and the man himself, Luke Slater for release on Mote Evolver.
The word legendary gets thrown around the industry a little loosely sometimes, but you’d be hard pressed to find many more deserving of such a title than Planetary Assault Systems, aka Luke Slater. A pillar in the techno world for decades now, his epic mixes from a live Fabric club masterclass in 2013 to the aforementioned 2011 release “Rip The Cut” are just a tiny sum of the near mythic-level creations Luke Slater has gifted the scene over the years.
All four “Rip The Cut” Remixes stand out individually while also staying true to the source material. The first of Slater’s two remixes features pounding kick drums and precise, bouncy bleeps from a presumed analog rack. The track will surely be rinsed at peak hour or very early in the morning while the party is still rocking. Pure techno grooves make this first remix on the record shine like a lighthouse through a stormy sea. Dubfire’s route follows a slightly mysterious pathway with its steady, pitch-climbing, vocal-screeching, and ping pong-like synths. This tune perfectly shows off the patented style that Dubfire is known so well for. A super-hot breaks and techno barrage carries Luke Slaters’ second remix as quite the standout tune. This shit is bangin’ any way you look at it, and it’s a listening pleasure cruise as it progresses to the climax. Harsh, resonated drums plod and bang with a slight tinge of swing, making for a raw, can’t miss dance weapon. The finesse and feeling of the remix is, simply put, on a higher level than the vast majority of modern day techno productions. Rounding out the remix package, The Lady Machine puts a minimal, brutalist spin on her own remix as choppy percussion combines with static release, creating a menacingly eerie vibe.
Fantastic remixes of the already prolific “Rip The Cut” are courteously provided by electronic heavyweights here. The release does absolute justice to the original material and may even surpass it with my personal favorite, Luke Slater’s second remix.
