“1overf” by Nikki Nair is a multifaceted journey of passion that pulls on the heart strings and keeps listeners guessing as to what comes next. Nikki Nair is a blooming artist residing in Atlanta, having made his debut in 2019. The style of Nair stretches and bends genre to a breaking point, allowing for colorful and expressive music.
Fresh is the first word that comes to mind when listening to “1overf”. Nair certainly takes his time when producing, only releasing music sparingly after pouring loads of time into the project. The single “1overf” is split into three separate segments, all having their own brand of interpretative expression.
The first act incorporates a metallic, jungle style drum kit and low frequency bass that give it a feeling of bouncing. At around a minute and a half, the song goes even lower, skewing the bass in a pleasurable, dissonant manner and creating a devious vibe. The script is flipped shortly after with bubbly vocal phases and funky bass licks. Vibrant and warm sounds wash over the track keeping a breakbeat core but administering a happier, comfortable setting. The third act, at four and a half minutes, reverts to the dub groove, implementing clever percussion and tight drum work. The reverberated vocal cuts echo in and out of the spatial plane, signifying the end of the sophisticated passage, “1overf”.
