Up and coming Berlin-based producer Bekkler self releases five cuts of deep dark techno on “Lifeform” EP.
Bekkler’s latest “Lifeform” EP is an introspective narrative around struggle and perseverance, expressed through dark, electronic club beats and tasteful sound design. Meticulously crafted and polished, each track on the “Lifeform” EP more than adequately demonstrates Bekkler’s talent and sensibility as a producer. With skills like this, it’s only a matter of time until the young artist receives his flowers.
Starting off the EP is morbidly dark and daunting cut, “Communication.” Swelling, reverberating bass oozes into the foreground while meandering layers of percussion create a sense of vast open space. The next cut “Moth” features a smeared, hazy lead that feels hypnotic and delirious. Drifting further and further from predictability, the title track “Lifeform” feels the most explorative and raw. As a rapid drum roll simmers and stirs, a mind boggling melodic lead suddenly takes on an unnerving shift toward chaos about half way through. Cooling things down, the most atmospheric of the five, “Desert Calling,” utilizes a faint, broken kick pattern to further drag you down into a sunken stupor. Last on the EP is a remix from fellow Berlin-based up-and-comer, ogtrues. In his remix of “Communication” the drums take precedence, all while maintaining the same energetic feel and dark flavor of the original.
Bekkler’s “Lifeform” EP is a big step forward for this young producer. It is clear that to this artist, techno can be a medium for dealing with human emotion despite its ties to the technological, a sentiment not only inferred from the music, but also expressed in the artist’s description of the EP on his Bandcamp page. Support the artist with a digital download, and expect to hear more exceptional techno from Bekkler and ogtrues in the near future.
