“Chance Is Our Greatest Ally” consists of three vibrant tracks to celebrate the release of newly formed label, Faux Poly. Started by Kassian, aka Warren Cummings and Joe Danvers of Hackney, Faux Poly focuses on providing an outlet for “genuinely unique dance music.”
“Chance Is Our Greatest Ally” sees Kassian exploring ideas with admirable depth and creative takes, “focusing on the idea that the best sounds are not imagined and then created, they are discovered.” The duo keep the listener guessing as to what comes next while dangling the familiar, melodic and groovy carrot in front of them, resulting in a warm approach to techno dance music.
The plan for Kassian’s Faux Poly label is to release records in which each approach is based around a different concept or theme. “Both the process used to create the music and an aesthetic that runs through each record.”
“Chance Is Our Greatest Ally” strives to provide techno-influenced experiments for the dancefloor, utilizing hypnotizing basslines and spacey stabs to full effect. Melancholic atmospherics give off a jazzy, nonchalant feel as Kassian traverses an impressive amount of spatial and technical avenues.
A dynamic duo, Kassian seem to succeed with their take on experimental techno cultivated specifically for the dancefloor. A stand out track on “Chance Is Your Greatest Ally”, “Metropolis” offers an enjoyable ride consisting of segmented instrumental acts featuring tribal energy flair. “Akkala Falls” slows the pace down slightly, implementing a more introspective and ambient take on club music. The triplet rhythm in “Akkala Falls” is quite enjoyable and adds an organic swing to groove along to. Meanwhile, closing track “San Junipero” instills tension with fast, oscillating bass sweeps and open-sounding Claves.
