Ukrainian artist Igor aka SVZZ drops heartfelt heaters in his latest self-released score, “Bien-aimé”. Chunky, bass forward tunes are dedicated to those who supported Igor in difficult moments throughout his life.
“Bien-aimé” translates as ‘beloved’ which is the basis of the release’s intent. SVZZ, at only 20 years old, has grasped electronic music with a professionalism and polished skill set that is to be envied. Needless to say, this is a young gun with all the potential and style to grow and maintain an illustrious career as a talented producer.
“Bien-aimé” straddles many genres and styles with precision and swagger. Part breaks, part hip-hop, electronica, you name it, it’s in there somewhere. SVZZ certainly has a commanding form when it comes to creating electronic music. The bass seems to be the commanding and driving force, but there lies a fragile balance in his arsenal that screams out, begging to be listened too. There are aspects of DNB in tracks “Bien-aimé” and “BYSS”, switching up the rhythm and making things interesting. Super grumbly and pure low groans are found on “Grave” with phasers added for good measure. UK garage can be assumed to influence tracks like “Grave” and “No6“. There is serious attitude pouring from these tracks, utilizing visceral instrumentals and sound effects while keeping the mood organized and precise. Really, kudos to such a young producer for stretching the boundaries and evolving the music, while all along the way dropping some totally funky shit.
Electro, mixed scrumptiously with tribal drum patterns and washed-out synth waves, come together organically in a gorgeous and introspective journey named “Storm”. It plays through the cycles of a thunderstorm, bringing up feelings like the anxious come up of swirling clouds progressing into heavier rain and thunder, finally climaxing into the calm still skies left over. It gets even groovier with the final track, “No6”. More electro-breaks goodness to sink the proverbial teeth into with in-your-face snare shots and poignant claps dictating the sinister trajectory.
It can come off as overkill when describing young, ripe talent in the electronic music industry, but SVZZ is a bright and shining star as seen here across his self-released “Bien-aimé”. Please, do yourself a favor and support the artist at the Bandcamp link above.
