Robert Babicz – “KELCH1” (KELCH) [July 15, 2022]

Robert Babicz has been incubating a concept for a label to showcase more personal output aside from the Babiczstyle label, which is more traditionally Techno and Melodic Techno-oriented. This “KELCH1” release aims to broaden the field of interest to include deeper influences and even Drum and Bass excursions as a personal sampling of the work of Robert Babicz.

“KELCH1” is a pair of opposite bookends of a style familiar to the work of Robert Babicz, who has been focusing on truly deep and fully emotive tracks for more than a decade after moving away from the solely harder and caustic releases of Rob Acid during the ‘90s and early ’00s. A true synthesist and a mastering engineer by trade, Babicz’s personal tracks are a reflection of a long and personal quest for expression in Techno and electronic music. For the last few years, it seems Babicz, has also undergone a deeper quest for this music and seems to have nailed it with the Deep House-flavored cut “A Save Haven.” And for the heads who desperately need their weekly fix of a dope dance cut, “Dominate” definitely delivers.

With “A Save Haven”, it’s hard to pin down what makes it special but, if you look at the treatment of the dynamics and the softness of the delivery, it really conveys the eloquence and personal character of the artist. Everything is purposefully not rough, and all the edges are softened. All of the synths are combined to bring a gathering feeling as you’re surrounded and pulled into this center groove. It’s not overly sentimental, sappy, or forced but a truly sincere look into the personality of Robert Babicz. This first track is a great statement and a very lovely artistic expression of style and taste.

“Dominate” is also a personal expression, and this number knows exactly just how to shake out a heavy dance cut. Still softer than some of the harder, edgy tracks coming out, this track will balance some of the more sterile techno coming out and infuse a DJ set with groove and funk to those straight beats. By taking the set into a higher gear, “Dominate” is a breath of fresh air and a serious assertion of personal style as a complement to the scene that exists at present.

All respect is due for Robert Babicz on this “KELCH1” release. It’s a successful pair of cuts on a premier release from a personal label of individual ideas and vibes, serving as both a reaction and a guiding hand to the electronic music community. With a set of tracks like these, this focus on style and emotion is sure to be noticed and something being felt across the board more and more in harder Techno. And Robert Babicz has been there and had a hand in it for a very long time. “KELCH1” is a very stellar release from a true master in the scene.
