Operandum – “Inemuri” (Operandum) [August 5, 2022]

Italian mystery producer Operandum is back again with an ambient loop package titled “Inemuri” consisting of four spaced-out grooves. A bit of an enigma, the artist first popped up ten months prior to releasing “Inemuri” on Bandcamp.

The sequencing comes from modular sounds and makes an impact on the frequencies produced throughout the release. Hailing from Rome, Operandum is steadily carving out a niche for himself. These tracks read more like stripped down club stems but do have a surprising amount of soul and character enveloped between the seemingly simple measures. The tracks provide the essentials for feel-good listening. Grumbling, warm bass and dubby reverberations phase in and out with flange—a focus on minimal percussion action—and above all else, are easy to listen to.

“Blue Savannah” packs gusto with poignant kicks right off the bat and a melancholic atmosphere provided by harmonized chords. The track feels a bit like floating on a broken cloud. “Harvest Moon” continues with a sedative, introspective tune that one won’t have much trouble drifting off into a meditative state after consuming. It is ultra-relaxing but with a consistent and well thought out drive. There is ancient and methodical energy emitting from the track that hits you in the heartstrings as the track travels its serene path. The title track “Inemuri” brings synth pads and bouncing bass ping pongs to the party, delivering the most prototypical “ambient” sounding track that the release has to offer. “Kinetik” is the easy choice for playing out, whether it is in a dark basement or late-night club, the track has serious potential. Squelching, acid-washed, and exceptionally groovy, “Kinetik” nails what it sets out to do and may provide inspiration for the evolution and future of Ambient Club music.

Operandum has done a lot for his stock on his latest “Inemuri” release. Certainly an artist and producer to keep both eyes on as 2022 rambles on. If you enjoy the music, please consider purchasing direct from the artist at the link provided above.
