DJ Overdose – “Powers Of Ten EP” (Dalmata Daniel) [August 19, 2022]

The independent label from Budapest, Dalmata Daniel, welcomes back DJ Overdose for a dark Disco journey including a slamming remix by J. Mono, dubbed “Powers of Ten” EP. Think Vice City on steroids with a hefty helping of class. A direct transportation to the mid ‘80s with warm, cloudy synth work and a lo-fi percussion that serves the styling immaculately.

Dalmata Daniel was brought to life in 2016 and is based on three friends wanting to melt their different tastes into a visual universe. DJ Overdose, the creator of Rotterhague Records is known for funky, Leftfield Disco and unique flair, making him stand out as a true artist.

Clearly, the “Powers of Ten” EP stands on a firm foundation of instrumental work and fine-tuned compression on the back end. It has a particular frequency that’s overall pleasant to the palate, like a warm summer day that makes you feel uplifted and lazy at the same time. “Garden of Lust” utilizes tubular bass that sounds like it was generated in the bowels of a Louisiana swamp’ guttural and a pure emulating pf the croak of a large bullfrog. The EP’s second track “Feed The Beats” kicks off with a staticky kick jumping straight out of commercial from the ‘80s. The feel of the synth lines and highly compressed drum kit would serve as a good Dungeon and Dragon’s campaign soundtrack.

“Drive Me Crazy”, with symbols and characters for every input, takes a bit of a Leftfield turn with overly autotuned robot voices and off-kilter rhythms. The tune in and of itself has a robotic finesse that escalates the track into electronic bliss. A plethora of sound effects, groove changes, and clever harmony points make “Drive Me Crazy” a complete piece of music. The remix by J. Mono, described as an introverted songcrafter and synthjammer mastermind, is a fantastic way to end the “Powers Of Ten” release. The track has high tempo energy, clean acidic synth work, beautiful melodic sections, and minimal, poignant percussion. Definitely check out the remix once released on August 19th.
