Finnish producer and DJ Orion returns with standout EP “Rubber Ensemble” for his Absence of Facts imprint.
Orion has been a staple in Finland’s underground Techno scene for over 25 years. His very own imprint, Absence of Facts, has not only showcased many of his own recent productions over the last eight years but featured other legends, including long-time friend and collaborator, Cari Lekebusch. With his latest “Rubber Ensemble” EP, Orion further cements himself as an exemplary Techno craftsman, worthy of our attention and praise.
Starting off the EP is the rough and raw title cut, “Rubber Ensemble.” Heavy distortion saturates an aggressive drum loop that refuses to sit still. Gradually, the beat builds its way out of being filtered, growing louder and brighter by the second. Around the halfway mark, the track breaks free of all resistance and glistens like a diamond in the rough. Double time snare hits at the drop provide an extra boost of energy that help to maintain the track’s wildness and unpredictability. The second track, “Fake Science,” takes on a different approach, orienting around an enticing vocal loop. Sharp shakers scratch their way through the mix while echoing sound effects help to articulate the groove. A high-pitched whistle noise comes in at the perfect time to prepare you for the beat’s climax. The closing selection, “Kaira,” explores a softer sound with subtle instances of low-end grit for continuity. An unpredictable melodic lead, rinsed in long delays, feels light and lackadaisical. While the lead hypnotizes, the kick and bass carry the heavy lifting, thumping hard without being overbearing.
Orion’s latest “Rubber Ensemble” EP is an excellent addition to Absence of Facts’ ever-growing discography. Support the label with a digital download via the link above.
