Straight up raw Jungle Techno from the deviant Pessimist, “Blue 09” comes in hot and heavy with an A-side of realness. Pounding and unrelenting, the champion from Bristol, Kristian Jabs, aka Pessimist presents a primal package of killer, club-ready hits.
Releasing on a DIY label, AD 93 is a champion of no frills and underground sounds boasting a ridiculous lineup of forward-thinking producers. Pessimist says: “Hardcore / Jungle Techno done my way. These are two tunes for the dancefloor, no messing around, straight to the point, to be fair they’ve been doing damage wherever I go!” After listening to both sinister outputs in the form of “MDZhB” and “Danger” it’s not hard to imagine that these tracks do indeed, spew damage.
Irreprehensible violence is put forth with class and razor-like sharpness in the fifteen-minute onslaught that is “Blue 09”. A masterclass of simplistic rhythms that transverse a hypnotic and tribal field, in turn radiating frequencies straight to the victim’s chest. There’s a lot to dissect in just these two, high-energy tracks that start quickly in keeping you holding on for dear life until the very end.
A titillating intro of devious chanting summons the first track “MDZhB” as it’ transports the patient to a makeshift operating room with blinding white lights overhead. Bombarding bass pulsates cryptically as high hats keep a streamline of brass chomping along like a mining cart duo cranking up inertia. The track stimulates the neural pathways in monolithic fashion, never slowing for anything until the tripped-out breakdown with drum diddies lovingly make their way back to then creatively mesh with the gritty pounding bass and drums.
“Danger” comes in with a raucous attitude and a propensity for destruction. It plays the classic devil and angel on the shoulder game as it bombards eardrums with chaotic sonic programming courtesy of amen breaks and a wallowing low end. Picture being uploaded into the matrix and then warped to a Legend of Zelda temple during the breakdown.
Truly banging gems in “Blue 09” that we may look back on with admiration, years in the future. The present is ripe with ultra-chic productions like the ones found here, and it feels like it’s a good time to be a techno fan. Give the release a listen at the Bandcamp link above.
