Augusto Taito – “Force To Surface” (Secession) [October 7th, 2022]

Amsterdam-based Augusto Taito slams onto the Croatian label Secession with a dynamic four-tracker “Force To Surface” EP full of spaced out Breakbeat and floor-stomping audio.

Augusto Taito is no stranger to driving, powerful Techno. Based in Amsterdam, Augusto has relentlessly pushed tactful and tasteful Techno music on his releases with several notable labels, such as Suara and K S R. This recent “Force To Surface” release on Secession is a continued testament to the sound that this artist has become notable for.

“Tweaking Nebula”, filled with spaced out sequencing and coupled with a well-constructed thudding kick line, brings the release in on a nice and relaxing, albeit manic, mood inducer. The arpeggiated atmosphere trucks along in the background with rises and swells that bounce through the timeline of the track. The delayed and reverberated lead synth beeps through the mix and the randomization tactfully brings in a full body to the first installment of the release.

“Grimmy Turbulence” dives into a 4-by-4 kick line with a nice and playful mid-range synth line. As it bounces forward, the track is filled with randomized and delayed automated clap lines and an almost off-tune stad that ebbs and flows before being replaced by a soft rising pad line to bring a welcome shift to the feel of the whole EP.

“High Trip” slams into action with a heavy, hollow kick line, rolling tom, and hat line before hitting home with a stripped-down background synth that provides a bit of overall swing and rhythm to the intro. As it progresses, an eerie pad slides into play—rising before breaking away with articulate rides and hi hat segments that switch up just when you think you’ve got the sequence memorized. Overall, the track has an upbeat but haunting air to it that really is intoxicating in its own right.

“Assumptions” finishes the release off with a fast-paced, broken-sounding kick and bass line. Stripped down and quick to draw energy to a listener, the track is littered with familiar synth lines and randomized, almost tin-like soundscapes. All elements throughout never outshine or feel overlapping in any way, but rather provide a nuanced compliment to the entirety of the movement forward. Minimalistic in its design, “Assumptions” ends off the release in a fashion reminiscent of what you would think of when you see Augusto’s name on a release.
