From Stephen Disario, in collaboration with Stier, comes a deliciously hallucinatory three track EP titled “Colliding Consciousness” released on London-based Liberta Records.
“Colliding Consciousness” takes us on an introspective journey through energetic beats, vibey atmospheres, and smooth basslines. Among other things, Stephen Disario is one of the heads of Cognition Events, a resident DJ with WORK, and a staple of the LA Techno scene. This latest release iterates on his signature style of Techno.
The title track, “Colliding Consciousness”, opens up the record with a deep, hypnotic, alien soundscape. Immediately, the listener is engulfed in a bed of low throbbing bass. As the track builds, the space opens up to reveal massive reverberations and the echoes of far off celestial bodies. The lush atmospherics would threaten to carry us out deep into outer space, away from any chance of rescue, were it not for the warm, intimate drums keeping us locked into the groove.
The second track, “Under The Moonlight”, picks the tempo up a bit and brings the percussion into focus for more energetic vibes. A profound rolling bassline layers with a subtle melodic midrange to provide the hook. That’s not to say that the spacey elements present across this EP are missing from this piece—they provide an ebb and flow to the whole composition that keeps the momentum dynamic and unpredictable.
For the final track, Disario teams up with rising Argentinian talent Stier, whose influence can certainly be felt. “Lost Transmission” delivers a driving rhythm to bring the record home with a crescendo. Woven throughout the track is a distorted synth that introduces some welcome heat to the mix while maintaining a tasteful restraint that brims with angst.
From beginning to end, “Colliding Consciousness” provides a bouquet of dancefloor vibes with heady flavors to suck you into its gravitational pull. Disario has outdone himself again, and his collaboration partner, Stier, will be one to watch as Argentina continues to see an explosion of Techno talent. Keep an eye on these two. Can’t wait to hear what comes next from these sonic pioneers.
