The newest addition to SK_eleven’s SK-X series brings a new collaborative EP featuring Belgium’s Altinbas and Greece’s Cirkle on their second release together, “Time In Motion”.
With this release, the two affluent techno artists bring about fast-paced, classic-inspired Techno grooves that’re a testament to the tenure these two have earned over their years in the circuit and their notoriety therein.
Setaoc Mass’ SK-eleven imprint has featured a substantial number of artists both on the rise and on the up and up in the Techno circuit while still holding true to mind-bending and forward-thinking music firmly rooted with classic Techno influences. The recent release, “Time in Motion”, features two influential artists well known for creating monstrous releases in their own right—Belgium’s Altinbas (Token, Float records, Voltage) and Greece’s Cirkle (Temporal Variation, Float Records, End of Perception). While having associated with each other for years, the pair have only within the last two years began to collaborate as a duo which came to a head with their recent release on the Voltage imprint, “Cynical Moves”. While the EP was only just released mere months ago, they’ve quickly followed it up with the aptly named “Time in Motion”.
“Shagohod” immediately dives in with fervor, ripping in with a thick, snappy kick line and synth pluck that accompany a lower frequency variant to fill out the track front to back before even incorporating any hats or percussive elements. The overall feel of the track quickly cuts in and out of percussive sequencing and atmospherics that can only be described as a mental joy ride through old school influences with new age implementations.
“Enlightenment” follows its predecessor with a bit of a different touch on a familiar flare laid bare by the first track of the release. Punchy kick lines and rolling bass give way to a tempermental dub ambience. A bit more lighthearted while still an absolute floor-stomping masterpiece in its own, the track gives credence to a deeper climate and more ethereal realms of sound design.
“Bold” dives back into the familiar mid range elements and kick energies laid out with “Shagohod” while still procuring a different reaction in its execution. The fervent and familiar ride lines are showcased alongside a newly padded atmosphere, giving another twist to a familiar style that recalls Cirkle’s past releases with notable Altinbas flares and influences. The track shows how these two artists collaborate on a level of equal ground that allows both to provide a bit of a signature twist on the other’s notable musical interest and skill levels.
As the release draws to a close, “Time in Motion” immediately imposes why it is the title track of the release. Dub inflections dot the foreground with a thudding kick line alongside intricate cymbal and high hats. The swell and fall of the track provides a semblance of closure and finality to the release, shedding light on these artists’ level of curation and dedication to the craft of providing a journey through the auditory playing fields.
