Aderal – “Ribah” (Blush Recordings) [November 18, 2022]

Live hardware Italian duo Aderal drop two track original “Ribah” EP coupled with remixes by Italy’s VSK and Belgium’s 6SISS on Verona, Italy’s Blush Recordings.

Based out of a thriving Italian Techno circuit, Aderal has been making their way through various venues and shows, becoming somewhat of a common name among the harder, more industrially influenced circles. The duo’s been popping up for around five years here and there and has begun to garner international recognition for their distinct, distorted, and brutalistic take on Techno music. Opting to perform as a live setup rather than performing DJ sets, their breakaway “Ribah” album out on Blush Recordings based in Verona showcases the duo’s sonic range and influence. As if the two track beat down of a release wasn’t enough, the two originals are accompanied with notable Italian Techno artist VSK (MORD, 47, Illegal Alien LTD) and Belgium’s 6SISS (R&S Records, Voltage Imprint, Subsist Records). Citing the release as almost an ode to their musical upbringings and roots in the project together, the album features a photo of the stairs and railing that lead to their studio in an old primary school where the duo originated the project that has brought them into the mainstay of the harder techno community.

Beginning “Ribah” EP in true Aderal fashion, “BZNV” storms in with fervent bass ripples coupled with a thick, punching kick line and vocal chop that has an ominous undertone before ripping through to the meat of the track. Industrial influences dot the songs foreground and are made more prominent with the screeching synth that evokes memories of the duo’s live sets that have been fortunate enough to be captured in recordings and can be found online.

“RBH” changes the spectrum of mental tone with well layered percussion taking the reigns before a thick, rumbling kick takes you away into the ether of the music. The track shows a heavy rooting in the sound design and styles that have made Italy the staple in its own right within heavier takes on Techno music and counterpoints while complimenting “BZNV” and its heavier inflections.

VSK has been well known for their more atmospheric and subtly nuanced remix abilities and original music. Over the years, they’ve established themselves as an artist with a natural knack for being able to curate a wide variety of musical emotion and stimulation therein and their remix of “BZNV” is no exception. Crunchy and heavy, the kick fires in with notable VSK atmospheres and pad textures that are reminiscent of the artist’s past works. Steel to steel clinks and clanging writhe in the backgrounds while the original track’s lead synth dances in and out of the spectrum of sounds before beating into arpeggiations that have made VSK’s style unique and notable. A hard hitting masterpiece in its own, “BZNV (VSK Remix)” adds to the already powerhouse that is “Ribah”.

Ending the Release, Belgium based 6SISS fires back with melancholy drones and vocal editing that lends to the artists description of “Progressive cinematronica to gritty, industrial warehouse Techno before plunging into a tortured and brutal breakbeat line. Fast paced, fervent, and in every way aggressive Techno, 6SISS hold back nothing with their remix. Layering in the sound design from the original take, their remix is a no holds barred, fast paced, shredding journey through familiar musical influences of the EP’s second track while still procuring that uniquely distinct 6SISS influence.
