Miami-based E-HRZN Records welcomes rising stars Alessandro Cocco and Maccari to their roster with their first ever split EP, “Deep in Your Mind.”
E-HRZN Records hasn’t even been around for a full year but has already established itself as a premiere underground Techno label to keep an eye on. For their first ever release, the label unites an impressive lineup of talented producers, each of which contributed to a ten track various artists’ compilation that features some of the best new Techno craftsmen in the world. Bw, Linear System, and Mikrotakt are just a few names you might recognize off of this stellar debut, but it doesn’t stop there. Add some incredible digital artwork from none other than the legend himself, Yan Cook, and you know E-HRZN means business. Now, their sixth release, “Deep in Your Mind” EP, for the first time combines the musical voices of Italy’s Alessandro Cocco, and Brazil’s Maccari for a dark, energetic, and hypnotic musical journey.
The title track, “Deep in Your Mind,” starts the record off with a highly detailed, yet comfortably stripped back groove. Intricate rhythms begin to build, while a plethora of modular bleeps fill in the gaps. As the electronic sounds repeat, they begin to morph and stretch with painstaking detail, never stagnant and always moving forward. The next track, “The Silence,” utilizes an ever-changing massive reverb on the track’s lead chord stab to mess with the listeners’ sense of scale and space. Featuring a blend of Tribal, Dub, and modern hypnotic Techno, this track checks all the boxes for getting lost in the music and points to the future. Next, the slightly more abrasive cut, “Black Box,” offers dancers a more urgent rhythm to step to. A wonky synth lead morphs its way in and out of cohesion, sounding squishy and gelatinous in the best way possible—another highly effective DJ tool from this miraculous duo. The fourth cut, “Seduce Me,” utilizes more of a classic Acid bass line while maintaining a hypnotic foundation that’s equally peppy as it is mind-bending.
To close out the EP, artists KaioBarssalos and Atonism deliver two top tier remixes just in case you didn’t get your fill. KaioBarssalos’s remix of “Deep in Your Mind” feels even more mysterious than the original. Simplified to its bare bones, this version feels perhaps even more hypnotic than the original—a great selection for a DJ playing late night in a club or warehouse. Atonism, on the other hand, takes on “The Silence” with a meaty, raw interpretation that will put your subwoofer to work. A pounding kick, though substantial, is subdued by a distorted, rolling synth bass. If this track doesn’t get the crowd moving, you’d better switch to a different genre.
