The Barcelona-based Be As One Imprint features the Tel-Aviv-born and currently Berlin-based Kashpitzky (MindTrip, Be As One) again with his new release “Try To Define” filled to the brim with a powerhouse of hypnotic, mania-inducing cuts.
Kashpitzky’s musical upbringing is a diverse one with unique twists to match the variation and signature take on production. Citing his prior notable musical experience as a guitarist in metal-core bands, he eventually found himself in the realm of electronic instruments and the exploration of sound design. That exploration and affinity for musical variation led Kashpitsky to pursue a formal music education from Berlin’s esteemed SAE Institute.
Throughout his tenure, Kashpitsky has become somewhat of a wildcard selector of both tracks and productions alike. Never truly formulaic nor feeling like there’s a way to specifically pick apart his secular approach, each release has featured new and stimulating auditory experiences. “Try To Define” continues his bridging of the gaps between styles and selections, featuring a diverse range of genre-bending sound designs fit for a place on the mantle alongside his previous works. From House stabs to deep, temperamental bass and kick ranges, the entire release covers a large demographic of Kashpitzky’s takes and could even be said to lend credibility to his thoughts on not being pigeonholed into a particular style or interest.
“Another” delves deep into the cerebral recesses of plucky and reverb-laden Dub atmospherics. Late nights of dark alley-evoking tones play through manic patterns of the elements and automation that then dive down into moodier temperaments. Setting the stage before shifting focus and tone into “I Got This”, the projection changes the intake from deep and moody to a more driven and forward-driving energy. Stripped down and grungy, “I Got This” lays waste to the initial perceptions put forward by “Another” while still keeping pace with the artistic expression that’s common for Kashpitzky.
In true Kashpitsky fashion, “Rescue Me” again shifts into a well-curated change of pace with more House music style tones and vocal sequences while still holding on to the initial, conceptual ideals laid out by the tune’s predecessors. Upbeat and giddy in approach, it fields a different touch into play and showcases the diversity heard in Kashpitzky’s sets.
Coming to a close, “Try To Define” procures more dystopian and sci-fi-style cinematic stimulations coupled with ripping percussion that has an almost Latin undertone to it. Ending the release on a well-thought out note, the title track finalizes a journey unique to both Kashpitzky’s and the label’s interests.
