Prolific Amsterdam-based House producer Malin Genie unveils the second release for his Empam imprint with “Acheron”.
Malin Genie is a House music producer who consistently defies expectations. Always tasteful, nuanced, and evocative, his take on House is a breath of fresh air. With his latest second release on his new Empram imprint, “Archeron,” Genie exhibits a diverse range of styles while further exploring his signature, unrestrained sound.
Starting off the EP is the title track, “Acheron.” Warm analogue synth pads gently subdue a nostalgic bouncy bass line. Loose and carefree, Genie refuses to repeat himself or remain stagnant and instead transcends with complex melodies evolving into a higher sonic plane. Shaking things up, the second track, “Tumladen,” combines elements of classic Acid House with a wild, experimental sensibility. Raw and unnerving, this cut is in stark contrast to the track before it, but serves as a highly functional dance tune nonetheless. Next, “Halcyon” picks up the pace with its brisk, yet subdued, Dub House groove. Existing somewhere between ethereal and gritty, “Halcyon” will likely get the crowd moving and is sure to entice and excite all levels of House fans.
Last on the EP is Glia’s remix of “Acheron.” Only available on the digital version of the EP, Glia’s remix takes a sharp left turn away from House towards something much more experimental, stripping the track of all its percussive elements to create a dreamy, Ambient outro. Chopped to smithereens then increasingly diluted by broad filter sweeps, this version further adds to the EP’s eclecticism, and makes for a quaint finale.
