Ron S. – “Sensations” (Anode Records) [December 16, 2022]

Head of Saint Louis-based grassroots label Anode Records, Ron S., releases “Sensations” with 3 tracks featuring the sounds of live hardware and performance pieces optimized for dancefloors and massive sound systems alike.

For decades, Saint Louis has housed a unique underground scene that fought and earned its place in the Midwest musical movement. With underground venues and events being commonplace in the city, the music is a hub of home-grown talent and production crews that’ve created an unquestionable foothold in their neck of the world. One such label has become prominent in continually pushing artists into the purview of the industry while holding true to the roots of musical influence and its head, Ron S., has staked his claim as being one of the singular live artists of the region to always push the envelope in a forward pathway. “Sensations” is another strong stake in Anode Records’ already lengthy tenure and discography.

Starting the release off with thick and gritty kicks and spontaneous percussion lines, “Sensations” features a gravelly texture coupled with more upbeat elements that’ve been Ron S’s signature while still being versatile in his approaches as shown through the evolution of the release. As the release continues, “Feelings” evokes stabs and plucks in the sound design coupled with rumbling auditory landscapes. Uniquely Saint Louis-sounding in approach whilst still putting on the bells and whistles that one would look for out in a classic cut, “Feelings” takes the listener down a rabbit hole of memory and new experiences through its time in the playing field.

Wrapping up the release, “Erroneous Operation” is a powerhouse right out of the gate. Reverb and rolling elements create singular and all encompassing moments of fervent and dub-emoting sound sequences. From start to finish, this entire release truly testifies to the curation and skill behind Ron’s tenure both behind the booth and in a studio setting. Cultivating well-curated sonics from start to finish, “Sensations” commits to bringing the forward thinking music that the label has become known for and still plays into any classically-influenced Techno artists’ tastes.
