Reedale Rise – “Sesuvium EP” (Delsin) [April 7, 2023]

In an outstanding and deeply emotional release, Delsin and Reedale Rise come together to deliver a superiorly crafted, chilled-out, funk-flavored electro EP with “Sesuvium”.

Delsin has been after the home audience as of late, pursuing Electronica and Experimental cuts for your musing along with doing your work-from-home gig or spacing out at the 9-5. This release from Reedale Rise is comfortable enough to work while knocking about at home as well as on the dancefloor while your steady B’s kick out. If you’re familiar with Reedale Rise’s other tracks, this is where he really tends to shine.

Labels like Frustrated Funk and 20:20 Vision have also featured his top tracks such as “Water Margin” and “Lorelei” which share a similar, deeply chilled funky flavor—so much so that he’s been known as a central figure in this mini subgenre of cuts that follow this trend. Cuts such as Voice Stealer’s “Evaluation”, ERP’s “Vox Automation” DJ R21’s “The Forest”, Gosub’s “Waking Up” and of course, Der Zyklus’ “Formenverwandler” are all great preceding examples of this emotionally rich Electro sound.

Reedale Rise’s style is mostly encompassed in this release in a solid set of 808 and 606 hits with some more obscure digital Boss drums as well as classic analog synth riffs reminiscent of SH-101 baselines and an intuitive knowledge of the Alpha Juno and JD800’s Synthesis that touches on the style mastery presented in Autechre’s early works. This expertise is really present in the track “Artemia” where Reedale Rise just goes off on the JD’s parameters at the end of the track which is just plain ill.

“Littoral Zone” establishes the “Sesuvium” EP with a very chill morning flavor, while “Globular” leads with a gliding analog synth that sounds suspiciously like an Alpha Juno used like a SH 101. Each synth in Globular has a place in the stereo field as if placed in a fugal pattern, where they all have something to say and cross paths in a harmonic way. The most laid back track based on pads sets up an 808 jam with the cymbals and claps expressed in a trippy way through ‘tape echo’ while the chattering digital lead takes us home in a heavy glide versus LFO pattern.

Reedale Rise’s output on this is not a huge departure from his other works, but that’s not an issue, since he knows who he is and is able to deliver exactly what is on his mind. He is consistent and very committed to exploring his own voice through various permutations, of which little parts in the music shine brilliantly, like curious little planets to be carefully explored. It seems like his ear is listening in on these places and giving proper loving attention to them in the stereo field. The tracks are all well crafted; that’s a given. But the deeper you listen to “Sesuvium” EP, the more you can see where Reedale Rise’s mind is at.
