The UK production behemoth Peverelist is back at it again with “Pulse E.P.” combining class and style for the 60th release on his enigmatic Livity Sound label. This chunky four-tune release explores divergent takes on electronica while maintaining a dance-forward attitude.
Tribal percussion, keen FX work, and sultry bass meld into a unique and promising package of unadulterated sonic euphoria. The EP expresses four separate tracks titled Pulse I through IV as stand alone jams that also come together as a complete package.
“Pulse I” contrasts bright and wavy melody with intricate progressional flair. Tension builds to a climax with lovely chordal release. “Pulse II” encapsulates a slightly Avant Garde approach with sharp brass percussion and reverberated echoes. The tribal feel plays out like an old-school game soundtrack that you might find on the original PlayStation.
Meanwhile “III” is the most prototypical of the four works, but it slams tenacious chord stabs and poignant high-hats with the utmost sophistication. Peverelist really nails this one; it cuts teeth on a rolling ‘90s rave classic mixed with heavy UK bass, making for a truly nostalgic and deep ride. “IV” slows the tempo down for a more chill energy involving slick drum work and spacey synths, rounding out a master class in electronic music production.
Each track paves a futuristic path for its respective style. Peverelist expertly bends genres, seemingly dissolving boundaries with every track, all while maintaining the approachability. It truly is sonic production as an emphatic art form.
“Pulse E.P.” shows heart and soul from the very first measure all the way to the last second.
