Lisbon-based duo ERR0 unleash two pristinely hypnotic Techno cuts with their latest “Sertaline” EP.
ERR0, a Techno project from the minds of Rafael Duarte and José Veiga, is Lisbon’s latest standout act. Within less than a year, the duo has released a handful of high-quality tracks that indicate they’re ready for the big time. Now, their latest two-track, self-released EP, titled “Sertaline” pushes the envelope even further, exhibiting some of their best work to date.
Starting off the EP is the smooth and infectious groove, “Paroxetina.” Stripped back and rather tame, the drums of this track refrain from intensity and instead provide an ideal foundation to build off. A mixture of raw drum machines and organic drum kits create a well-balanced percussive blend. Elongated pads gently float around and above, echoing and bouncing over the focused groove. Large bursts of reverb dissipate in the background, creating a subduing feeling that juxtaposes the track’s fast tempo.
The title track, “Sertaline,” picks up the pace, but only slightly. Similarly relaxed and tranquil to the first selection, this cut pairs perfectly with the first but feels even more hypnotizing. A staggered, blurry melody steals the show, while a pounding bass line does the heavy lifting. What makes this track truly enjoyable, however, are the minutely evolving textures that fill up the empty space.
Like most of the tracks ERR0 has put out so far, “Sertaline” boasts a solid groove while incorporating just enough additional layers to keep your mind actively engaged. These two tracks would feel right at home in just about any hypnotic Techno DJ’s set; a great means for setting the mood.
