Detroit power imprint Motech releases their 4th installment of the Consortium lineage. “Consortium Vol 4” features 19 respective artists and their own unique flair on Detroit Techno music and the timeless legacy that has been curated in the label’s history since its inception in 2002.
Detroit’s lineage and tangible influence on modern Techno music has long been something of note. With the city housing many of the world’s affluent names both in and adjacent to the city’s metropolis of musical inflections, Detroit houses a plethora of talented artists and imprints. Between the hubbub of the day to day activities of the city, and amidst the historic architectures of the city, party promoters, DJs, Producers, and labels alike find their home in one of the most sought after cities to make a name for yourself as an artist in. With notorious venue’s dotting the cityscape and the annual Techno pilgrimage made by so many for the Memorial Day Movement weekend, the city seems to never run out of inspiration and drive for music and the underground that has found its home in Detroit.
One such label has played a unique role in stamping its own legacy in the history books of Detroit. Since 2002, the Motech label (founded by DJ 3000) has been curating releases and VA albums with a focus on continuing the forward momentum of Detroit’s Techno music while still holding true to the real-deal Detroit influence that can be felt throughout classic pioneering albums in the genre. As a pioneer label in it’s own, Motech has prominently shown an interest in an amalgamation of established and fresh talent being the center point of their illustrious release rosters, and this singular talent for finding brilliance in the otherwise overwhelming onslaught of names and producers is showcased exponentially well in their “Consortium” collections.
For their 4th year in a row, Motech releases a multifaceted album that features a wide range of artists spanning the globe while still holding true to the roots of the imprint’s musical focus on true-to-the-core, Detroit-influenced Techno. “Consortium Vol 4” features 19 select cuts of both regular label names alongside a fresh wave of faces and a rare appearance by one of the imprint’s original co-founders, Shawn Snell, along with label head DJ 3000. The track selection spans a wide swatch of musical territory in Detroit Techno, Electro, and hard-hitting, Techno-centric tracks.
With a wide array of returning talent from the various corners of the globe, the imprint welcomes back UK-based artists George Cross, Jeran Portis, and newfound resident at DJ Bone’s ‘Further’ events, Yeti Mind Tricks. On the US side of returning faces, the album gives a nod to Mazepa and Closer Orbit. French-based P-Ben and Germany’s Rob Strobe make a noteworthy entrance in their respective additions to the release along with Canada’s Veronique Page and Italy’s Davide Nigro, Austrian Petit Beurre, and Columbian Lega and Cvbes. Coming in with their Motech debut is Victor Santana (chaval Records), LA-based Realize, Detroit-based Pokepossum, Dublin’s Arbilla (Distance Label), Palermo-based Van Sorgen, and finally, Emstett who also hails from Germany.
