Pink Concrete – “Big Deal” (Bipolar Disorder Rec.) [August 21, 2023]

Czech-based Pink Concrete releases “Big Deal” on Swiss-based Bipolar Disorder Rec. featuring a selection of 3 original cuts alongside remixes by Lindsey Herbert, Matrixxman, and The Chronics. The release perfectly captures the intensity of all 4 artists in one package.

Celebrated Czech artist Pink Concrete has been a singular force of deep, hypnotically swirling sound design for quite some time. First appearing seemingly out of the aether in 2020, they quickly became a prominent source of minimalistic, technically satisfying productions and curations. Appearing over the years on various VA compilations and labels, August heralds the first solo release of the ephemeral artist since their breakaway “I Hate Millennial Architecture” EP released on Children of Tomorrow and dives headlong into versatile originals and power-play remixes.

“Big Deal” features surgically melody-laden selections indicative of Pink Concrete’s signature ‘pink touches to concrete music’ focus. Driving kicks coupled with magical synth sequences creates an atmosphere of mysticism and softly-edged tonalities. Picturesque soundscapes evoke a sunny meadow-like auditory experience with well placed swirls of harder textures. The 3 cuts across the release take a plunge off the deep end into calming but chaos-inducing peace.

The release also features a remix by Berlin-based Matrixxman, who supplies his signature mind-bending takes coupled with broken rhythms and ominous pads that have made him a mainstay in his own right. Additionally, US-based Lindsey Herbet comes into play with her “Lost Satellite” remix. Her take on the original holds onto its hypnotic qualities, utilizing ethereal chord structure and the original sequencing of elements while still delving into Herbert’s own unique structures and production elements. Finally, the Bipolar Disorder Rec. label head, The Chronics, throws their hat into the mix with a dystopian twist on “Floor,” offering reverb-heavy, subterranean Techno straight from the deepest recesses of the Swiss underground.
