Ben Pest returns with a 4-tracker EP of cuts direct from his live setup. “Main Out Trax” stands true with Break selections of heart-pounding edits, broken and glitched-out VIP edits, and no-nonsense Techno.
Ben Pest has been on the focal point of regular discussion as a prolific and talented producer when it comes to techno and breaks. Always pushing upward into avenues of expression and unique, inspiring edits of their own music, Ben has again come out with a release of prolific proportions. In their self release, aptly named “Main Out Trax”, Ben focuses on a well curated 4 track selection built utilizing exclusively their liveset material, effectively focussing on live curation of the musical movements and then recorded out for mastering.
The release starts out with a well-placed VIP edit of one of Ben’s fan favorite tracks, “Strict Saws”—a track built on warm, uplifting synths coupled with glitched-out saw structures and progressions. In the VIP edit, Ben utilizes the functionality of the original leads but focuses on a restructure into a more Techno-centric, four-on-the-floor styling not shown in the original edit. This method of shifting the Break-styled sound designs into Techno movements, brings out the overall focus of the release.
“Weight For It” comes in hot and heavy with darker engineering and heavier kicks alongside tactful acid lines. The second half of the “Main Out Trax” EP dives more into hypnotic, deeper rhythms with “Template 01” featuring a broiling auditory dive into Ben’s versatile nature and well-attuned ear for music.
Finally, the release ends with “The Glutch” for a more ominous and industrially-inclined addition to the album. Slower in approach, the sweeping engineering makes for a slow broil into the climax of “Main Out Trax”. Using raw, gritty editing and mastering, “Main Out Trax” showers listeners with every possible interest they could ask for and offers opportunities for addition to any crate for any scenario.
