Jaymie Silk’s “Sambatida” is an instantly infectious all-out-fiesta, effortlessly inviting you to come dance your heart out. Packed with 909 action, big drums, and plenty of umami flavor, Silk’s 3rd EP release in 3 months is primed to fill your ears with a world of kaleidoscopic sound.
Making big waves in non-conventional music production, Jaymie Silk obliterates boundaries and writes from his own rules. Avidly raising awareness for anti-racism and diversity in music, the Paris-based producer, DJ, vocalist, remixer, writer, and activist comes well-prepared for genre-bending.
Starting his career producing hip-hop beats, he quickly lost interest in the monotony and facelessness of his work. With a constant need for experimentation and an eye-opening exposure to Montreal’s ballroom scene, he found open doors in Electronic Music. Finding correlation in his own feelings of being an outcast, he started releasing electronic tracks that were representative of a multicultural point of view and was quickly picked up by Japanese label Trekkie Trax. Never looking back, he has now established himself as a force of perpetual color and texture, embodying an Avant Garde conception of international club music.
Never shying away from hard conversations, he has used his platform to advocate for POC and educate the masses about hardships and biases that exist in our scene and the world at large, emphasizing the effects of racism on mental health. Actively showcasing musical influences from all over the world, Jaymie is not only a trendsetter but a boundary pusher.
As a prolific producer, with over 100 inventive releases on labels like Fool’s Gold, Moonshine, and Shall Not Fade, his vision has turned global and cultural, committed to bringing voices and soundscapes that might otherwise be dismissed. Conceptual projects like ‘Rub Music Vol. 1 “Artificial Realness,” which was the first dance music record to use AI generated voices, and the genre-unclassified “Diasporave trilogy,” which promises to take listeners abroad, are more than just musical experiences. As Jaymie Silk challenges our perceptions of music culture, he reverently asks audiences to reconsider their senses of reality.
“Sambatida” is yet another powerful display of boundary bending and originality. With a mission to bring the groove back to Techno and House, the EP creates formulaic resistant grooves that are simply irresistible. With elements of Hard Groove Techno, House, Samba, Batida, and Tribal Techno, the color and flavor of this album are quite literally on fire.
Far from a straightforward Techno or House arrangement, “Hot Mess” kicks off with a banging bass line, multi-rhythmic drums, whistling, and House vocals all whipped into a frenzy and delivered piping hot. “Obrigado” immediately entrances with a repetitive vocal, and drums on drums bring a sense of ritual, inviting you to dance for the gods. The title track of the EP keeps the Hard Groove energy, adding trance-like elements for a more melodic groove than the previous numbers. Ready to make you pop that P, “Work This Funky P” is a dancefloor anthem ready to be unleashed, bringing a high-energy House vibe reminiscent of the Percolator but with a vivacious ferocity.
A vacation from the dull, “Sambatida” is an energy creator, a liberator, and a full-forced musical experience that explodes like a confetti cannon filling our lives with infinitely more fun.
