Asmodeo – “Fixed Bells” EP (Subhills) [January 13, 2024]

Tokyo’s sound culture has long been a point of thought-provoking complexities and traditions coupled with an unyielding focus on perfection and fine-tuned curation. Within this vast wealth of musical culture and unyielding focus on complexity and beauty therein, Japan has long had a diverse and unique underground Techno movement that bridges the gaps between varying formats and genre styles. Overall, the country has found a niche in varying degrees of thought-provoking, forward-progressing musical insights which have yielded one of the most sought-after experiences the world over.

In the corners of this movement and dance halls alike, many have created a well-focused and natural-sounding progression in imprints and labels which constantly are on the cutting edge of new musical outpouring. It has led to a surplus of talented and otherwise unknown faces to come through their releases. One such artist that has found themself thrust into an upward swing of sorts is Hypnotism label head and acclaimed artist, Asmodeo.

Asmodeo has been an up-and-coming artist in their own right, releasing on varying labels and podcast performances that have lent a strong backing to their career in the industry. While being an active member of their own aspirations, Asmodeo also hones in on creating platforms for other unknown artists to perform through their podcast built around their Parallel branding. Starting the podcast during the pandemic contingency actions, they have since allowed many emerging artists to be featured on a platform that otherwise may have been outside an aspiring artist’s grasp. This has also led to the founding of their Hypnotism imprint, which was founded in 2023 and has since featured several releases.

All this momentum and passion for the underground movements come to a finely-honed culmination in the “Fixed Bells” EP. The album features two decisively individual raw, heart-pounding Techno cuts that delve into peak time creations while simultaneously creating technical and complex patterns that weave in and out of the musical stage. Enjoy this sweat-inducing Techno from one of the world’s quietly rising harbingers of the underground.
