Tronic goes to bat for 2 up-and-coming Moroccan producers, Name_Less and J B I L O, and scores big with their new “Overload” EP fully embracing the label’s signature style.
Name_Less and J B I L O surely sound like they have studied the Tronic aesthetic from back to front. But in reality, it seems like the blend of J B I L O’s Industrial Techno and Name_Less’ well-crafted Techno-House really come to center on nailing the timeless Tronic sound.
Tronic’s quintessential style would be the funky drum loops, chords, filtering, call-and-response elements, deep chords, and straightforward chugging and driving bass grooves. It is safe to say the pair have really nailed the sound conceptually, but like Hertz and his Sway releases, have upgraded the sound with modern production techniques and a more polished sound. It is a surefire monster grooving release that will set the dance floor on fire.
The big standouts on the release are “Overheat,” which goes heavy on a hint of hypnosis with the disembodied chord hits floating far apart in the mix. “CPU Overload” also takes on this subtle hypnotic edge with gentle vocal ambiances and careful drum layering, all while surrounded by warbled and grooving chord patterns. Both are just really nice places to hang out in sonically.
The other interesting and funky standout on this release is the party-rocking remix by M.I.T.A. of “Overheat” with his “Easy Going” version. Everything is heavy and present in the mix and very in your face with his mixing of the elements. This track is definitely a dancefloor burner that is fun to dance to and a bit crass and silly in its irrelevant vocal breakdown.
Summing it up, this entire “Overload” EP is a real cut-and-dried release that embraces the full legacy of the Tronic legacy and passes the torch to a new generation of ears ready to embrace its funky and flowing aesthetics.
