Bass daddies My Nu Leng disturb the peace with a tasty, bass-heavy game changer for the fiery hot Australian imprint, Shall Not Fade, titled “For The Longest Time”.
The Bristol duo Tommy & Jammo, known best for their bassline and UK Garage tunes, are taking a slight right into more experimental sounds with their brand new MNL. Moniker. It is a new creative stream constructing a home for their more diverse and experimental electronic endeavors, delving into Techno and beyond.
While My Nu Leng will still produce tunes under their mainstay moniker, they hope to open new doors for passions through MNL., and we are here for it! Having been embedded in the scene for well over a decade, their music prowess has seen them on global stages at festivals like Glastonbury, radio airplay via the one and only Radio 1, and renowned club venues like Printworks. Simultaneously, they have been curating their own string of events for years, bringing awareness to newer artists and spreading proper rave love to the masses.
“For The Longest Time” encapsulates the best of their signature sound with intensity and vigor balanced perfectly with an emotionality that gives dynamic depth. Elaborating on the bass culture and community that the duo has created over the years, the album paints with new colors from their same palette to brighten our winter blues. With sounds reminiscent of classic Joy Orbison, Dusky, Huxley, and even a bit of a Christian Löffler sound, the bass dynamics joined with an ethereal but still superiorly underground vibe is the perfect getaway into their new realm of sound.
“Somerset drift” is a top tune from the album and kicks off with banging, chopped, deep bass to create massive drama. The quick bass whip and clap immediately give excitement, and as the track opens, you get a feeling you might have felt hearing Joy Orbison’s “Hyphy mango” for the first time. While a much darker journey, the captivating energy matches. The chopped and distorted vocals carry the mystery of the tune, while the wicked bass pushes you deep into a trance. It is a solid tune for deep impact on the dancefloor. “So True” continues the dark and mysterious vibes. Highly energetic, it’s laced with pure dancefloor happiness. Packed with the ADHD bass that we love, this tune is sure to bring joy to any dancing feet.
Dreamy vocals from Collette Warren set “Lesson Learned” apart from the others. A gnarly slithering bass whirl encapsulates you, and junglist-referencing vocals remind you we’re in the underground. Collette’s feathery soft lyricism is the perfect juxtaposition of sweet and savory on this track. A late-night train ride on the sub-bass express, “Vanishing Point” emphasizes a Techno-style echoing horn and grimey Drum and Bass lyrics for an understated but impactful Techno track.
“Slow Motion” instantly gives a classic minimal Techno energy, with a slow drawn-out bass line paired with a suspenseful long organ chord that feels like you are in a funky horror film. Elements of Dub appear, and an eerie but welcomed dream state vocal gives a visceral reaction. This one is a sneaky tune that will continue echoing in your head long after the album is over.
You can find “For The Longest Time” available for stream and purchase on Bandcamp, Spotify, Soundcloud, Beatport, Amazon Music, and more.
