Dave Wincent returns to Soma with 4 high-energy, Minimal Techno tracks across “New Weapons.”
The Hungarian producer makes his second solo release on Slam’s highly acclaimed Soma records. The now Budapest-based artist’s first release came out in 2009, and since then, he has had releases on Illegal Alien, Airsound, and Nachtstrom Schallplatten. His hypnotic brand of Techno has been pushing the sounds in Hungary and beyond.
“New Weapons” starts with the title track and gets straight to the point with a 141 bpm bomb that slowly progresses into a dark, science fiction-esque, doom song. The more cerebral “12082023” features eerie synth stabs, quick claps, and a driving bassline—sure to ignite any dimly lit dancefloor.
“Beyond Paradise” follows up with another dark track full of hypnotic echoes but with more of a Detroit Techno groove. The pulsing low-end coupled with the balanced elements provide a perfect backdrop to the end of an evening. “Death Row” finishes out the EP release with haunting, atmospheric synths, and a hypnotizing and relentless bassline. Percussive elements throughout and a weird, tripped out breakdown bring the entire “New Weapons” release to an interesting but fitting end.
The Hungarian’s minimalist take on driving Techno has us keeping an eye out for more. Be sure to check out the EP here.
