Rene Wise – “Moving Pressure 02” (Moving Pressure) [December 6, 2024]

It’s evident that this Moving Pressure venture provides Rene Wise with a greater sense of freedom, allowing the artist to refine and express his vision more authentically. The result is a closer, more personal connection to what he truly represents through his music.

In this EP, there’s a palpable strength in rhythm, presented in a muscular and well-defined form that remains consistent throughout every track. True to his signature style, the record features an intricate blend of circular, rhythmic, droning, vocal, textural, and tonal elements, creating a cohesive sense of oneness across the tracks.

“Silo Cybin” begins with a liquid, hypnotic synth that beautifully complements the percussive foundation—both woody and synthesized—tightly connected to the kick and bass. Voices fade in and out, drifting through the air, while claps punctuate the rhythm, progressively amplifying the track’s soulful essence. Enigmatic at its core, the track carries subtle drifts and glimpses of another dimensional space, adding an intriguing mystical quality.

“Complicated” feels like an evolution of the first track, building upon its groundwork. Continuously looping “complicated” vocals repeat, merging effortlessly with a metallic stab that’s signature Rene Wise. The track develops through fade-in and fade-out elements, creating a flow that’s highly engaging for the dance floor and approachable for the audience.

Rising strings, pulverizing and grinding textures, and pads that vanish suddenly into a mental space leave us feeling both fuzzy and fluid, blurring the lines between what we’ve just heard and what’s yet to come. Just a deeply hypnotic track through and through.

“Rough Escorts” is more high-end, textured, dribbled, and percussive, with a fascinating call-and-response structure that feels like a statement running through the entire track. Four descending synth notes are met with a circular, atonal-metallic reply, creating a dynamic interplay that unlocks a Pandora’s box of mental space. This atmosphere feels instinctively natural to channel through our own dance moves, pulling us deeper into a world where expression flows freely. The track feels almost like an invitation, guiding us to translate its energy into movement, a seamless conversation between sound and body.

Ending the EP, “Bleep Police” follows the same percussive, loopy structure with a strong, muscular kick and bass, but introduces a glassy timbre that’s sculptural and light. The track feels both evocative and ritualistic, creating an atmosphere that is both captivating and engaging. Its balance between strength and lightness gives it a unique dynamic energy.

Very much in his own unique yet familiar sound, Andrew Shobeiri (aka Rene Wise) delivers four tracks that offer a complete body and mental experience. Deeply tribal and shamanic, this EP is designed with the sound system experience in mind, but that doesn’t mean it’s limited to a venue—it’s just as powerful as a personal mental dancefloor.
