FANK – “Octo Fades” (INHERIT) [December 12, 2024]

Berlin’s Inherit Records introduces newcomer FANK with their first full-fledged album release. Known for their mastering expertise, FANK has returned to Inherit to unveil a production that fully embodies their unique sound. Balancing hypnotic grooves with a darker, hard-hitting edge, FANK’s vibe is mesmerizing. The album’s depth and quality pull you in, while galloping beats keep you hooked. With prior appearances with underground favorites Disguised, for BCCO, as well as other contributions to Inherit, FANK has been building momentum—and this album drops just as the engine roars to life.

This release is a 10/10 triumph. Solid front-to-back, it’s an album that flows like a charging stream. Come for the sexy, hard-hitting equestrian bass and stay for the mesmerizing, plot-twisting melodies. The 7-track collection kicks off with ‘Octo Fades,’ which welcomes you with syncopated percussive grooves. Quick-paced and immersive, a vocal fragment guides you through a crevasse of thick, juicy bass. Next, ‘Snakebite’ delivers airtight rhythms and twisted, sugar-high energy. Packed with multi-layered melodies and charging bass, it’s peak-time dance floor magic.

Demonstrating how whispers can be one of the hottest sounds, ‘Soft Skin’ brings a sultry fantasy to life. Its sexy caress perks up the senses, offering a devilishly fun experience. The relentless gallop continues with ‘Concoction,’ throwing drumming bass right in your face. Ethereal whispers flow through the beat as house-like piano melodies provide a fleeting reprieve. It’s the kind of track that could make even dementors get funky.

‘Asleep’ offers a killer melody that masterfully juxtaposes gritty roughness with light, playful tones. A dance-floor builder with hints of funk, it adds depth and dimension. Then there’s ‘Axel Foley,’ where the soul of techno meets the heart of house music. Playful yet driving, funky yet hard, the track’s harmonious blend is pure joy for the ears and impossible to resist. Finally, Human Safari makes an appearance with a revamp of ‘Asleep,’ delivering a suspenseful call-and-response rerub that’s packed with tension and release.

Overall, this album is a journey into shadow and light, setting your mind free and getting you gloriously lost in the groove. With this release, FANK lays down a solid foundation and firmly establishes themselves as an artist worth following.
