Yan Cook continues his string of excellent releases with “Eyes Adjust To The Dark” on ARTS.
Yan Cook has developed a unique sound, evolving over time into perhaps a more full and mature sound, and a bit faster. Release after release, Cook proves he is highly adept at creating an atmosphere along with grooves that use infectious, polyrhythmic basslines and synths/pads, which act like a ‘hook.’
The percussion here on “Eyes Adjust To The Dark” is extremely crisp and well produced. On this release, there’s quite a bit of reverb as one might expect on an ARTS release—everything sounds consistent and clear—so rest assured, these would sound excellent in a big room on a big system. The bass would shake the walls, no doubt.
Featuring four club bangers, the first three tracks are perfect tension builders. “Kvitten” works both as a transition track or during the start/end of the night. As the title suggests, these would probably be most effective when played earlier in a set. Overall, the EP feels well-rounded. All four tracks are quality.
Yan Cook’s fourth release on ARTS, this represents a fabulous cooperation as Emanuel and ARTS continue their outstanding run of form with forward thinking releases. ARTS is clearly at the forefront of techno that is highly musical and euphoric, and this release is a worthy edition.
“Eyes Adjust to the Dark” reveals an artist and a label both at the top of their game. Out on January 10th, snag the vinyl before it sells out.
