Swooh and Aasi deliver five cheeky-as-hell tracks on this slapping collaborative “Cadillac” EP.
This one drives just like a Cadaillac: with style, grace and precision. You can’t argue with the swagger and elegance. They prove that sometimes, it’s best to throw convention out the window and avoid restrictions. With so much freedom and movement, Matisse would have fangirled over this “Cadillac” EP. It’s got soul, grit, and flair—with classic jazz, funk and Miami bass samples rolled up into this retrofitted gettotech release. This techno was built to drive fast.. real fast. Frankly, tracks this fast shouldn’t have this much groove; apparently someone forgot to tell that to Swooh and Aasi.
Swooh constantly blows minds with clever tracks that are just so damn smooth. A prolific producer who’s continually developing and improving, it’s good to see her making waves around the scene in France. Combining techno, ghettotech, and footwork, her style is truly one of a kind. If you frequent techno shows, you’ve probably heard her tracks but might not know it yet. They’re quite catchy.
Parisien Aasi is one to keep an eye on, with a unique sound that veers towards acid and breaks, creating an immense atmosphere. He’s been on a slew of compilations over the last few years, with a decent number of collaborative releases. Aasi’s solo track on the EP, “Last Night,” is an absolute banger.
Not surprisingly, when you put all this in an elevator, the result is a really interesting and fun release. To preserve groove at these tempos is no easy feat, but with the swing and sheer quickness of it all, it somehow works. Each track is a standout; Menfils and Smoking are the anthems. It won’t be for everyone, but isn’t that almost a compliment in this current era of music?
If you’re looking for long, heavy kicks, or even more traditional techno, look elsewhere, but if you’re out for techno that combines old and new with groovy elements and a special concoction of breakbeat genres, for me, this is about as good as it gets.
