Antic Soul – “Coral” EP (Mitsubasa)

Antic Soul is the Berlin-based duo behind the forward-thinking Entourage Concept label and are specialists in stripped back, dubbed out, and high-energy Techno.

Their latest release on Mitsubasa is the “Coral” EP; a four-track Dub Techno workout that will surely break some raver sweat on the dance floor.

The title track “Coral” kicks off the EP with a mellow intro whose groove slowly emerges from the murky depths as the energy ascends into a peak-time frenzy. “Frostbite” follows a similar formula but has more icy energy as the name implies with slightly slicker and sharper stabs and pads.

To some, there is a somewhat unspoken rule in Techno that vocals are verboten, but exceptions exist for a reason. “Clay” manages to meet that mark with a sample seemingly beamed from an ethereal realm. The closing track “Obsidian” lives up to its name with dark and shiny synth stabs and razor-precise arrangement.

There is something simple and effective about this dubby approach to Techno: heavy and hypnotic yet lush and spacious. Only a few elements dictate the direction of each track—percussion patterns, synth stabs, pad swells, and breakdowns with a satisfying sense tension and release. On a big soundsystem, each element has space to shine in the mix.

The “Coral” EP demonstrates once again why Antic Soul are masters of their craft. Each track is a high-energy, big-room dub techno workout… layered, expansive, and designed for creating sonic journeys on the dancefloor. Their sound and collaborative nature is a testament to the unity that music can create, delivering depth, energy, and groove in equal proportions.

This EP is a smashing addition to their already impressive discography, marking their spot at the forefront of Berlin’s techno scene.
