Developer takes on the high honor of compiling a release for Jeff Mills’ Axis Records, which has been on fire all of 2021. Staying true to the sound of outer-space inspired techno, the Los Angeles techno wizard provides three tracks himself and features fellow peers Inigo Kennedy, Silent Servant and Benjamin Damage for an intriguing compilation dedicated to newly discovered planets. Catch Developer and Silent Servant at the Los Angeles Compound on June 19, 2021.
The compilation opens up with “J1407b” from Inigo Kennedy, a deep dreamy exploration through space with a clever broken beat to keep rhythm. The happy synth melody changes scenery to a more mysterious progression towards the end as if to insinuate heading into unexpected territory.
In “Ranxerox”, Silent Servant brings an industrious flavor to the compilation while still staying true to the extraterrestrial theme with a gigantic “Vangelis-style” synth pad bellowing out through most of the track. The four to the floor beat keeps a steady pulse to align itself with the deep hypnosis continuity of the release.
Developer begins his contribution with “Arcadians 58”, a meditative piece that drives home an otherworldly groove without much dynamic in energy other than kick and hat dropouts. In “Volumino” he takes a wavering approach, masterfully building and releasing tension at will for an intense intergalactic battle between sanity and frenzy.
Benjamin Damage comes in with a raw, floor-stomping epic on “Azizos”. A variety of analog synth sounds mesh together and go back and forth between taking the lead for a smooth ride through a colorful sonic solar system.
Developer completes the collection with the wonky blissfulness contained in “Ursans”. Slightly out-of-tune elements give an exquisitely trippy feel to the highly intricate and uplifting arrangement that ends in a completely different place than it began.
